Description

A classic dessert that brings back memories with its rich chocolate flavor and creamy texture.


Ingredients

  • 1 pre-baked pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups milk
  • 3 large egg yolks, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, mix sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and bubbles.
  4. Remove from heat and stir a small amount of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks to temper them.
  5. Return the egg yolk mixture to the saucepan and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in the butter and vanilla extract until well combined.
  7. Pour the chocolate filling into the pre-baked pie crust.
  8. Let it cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
  9. Top with whipped cream if desired before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
  • Make sure to whisk constantly to prevent lumps.
  • This pie can be made a day in advance for convenience.
