Description

Lemon Blueberry Sourdough Bread is a delightful twist on traditional sourdough, combining the tangy flavor of lemon with the sweetness of blueberries for a refreshing and unique bread experience.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar. Mix well.
  2. Add the flour, salt, lemon juice, and lemon zest to the mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Gently fold in the blueberries.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Let the dough rise for another 30-60 minutes.
  9. Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  11. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

  • For best results, use a mature sourdough starter.
  • Feel free to substitute frozen blueberries if fresh ones are not available.
  • This bread can be served toasted with butter or as a base for French toast.
